Local know-how
How often to mow a Tauranga lawn, month by month
Most lawns around Tauranga are kikuyu, or have kikuyu creeping through them. It's a warm-season grass. It barely moves in July, then races away from late spring. A good mowing schedule follows the grass, not the calendar.

The rule we work to is simple: never take more than a third of the leaf in one cut. Leave a kikuyu lawn three weeks in January and cutting it back exposes the brown stems underneath. It looks dead for a week or two, and weeds move into the gaps.
Where you live matters too. Coastal sections in Pāpāmoa and Mount Maunganui sit on sandy soil that dries out fast, so in a dry February we lift the cutting height to shade the roots. Heavier inland soils in Pyes Pā and Welcome Bay hold water, so after rain we'd rather come back a day later than leave ruts in your lawn.

FAQs
Lawn mowing FAQs
How much does lawn mowing cost in Tauranga?
A standard section starts from $45 per mow on a fortnightly plan. Size, slope, access and how long the grass is on the first visit all change the price. You'll have a fixed price before we start.
Should I get my lawn mowed weekly or fortnightly?
Weekly from November to March for most kikuyu lawns, then fortnightly. Fortnightly all year works for slower ryegrass and fescue lawns, or if you don't mind a slightly longer look in midsummer.
Can you mow a wet lawn?
Not properly. A wet lawn tears instead of cutting cleanly, clippings clump on top, and mower wheels rut soft ground. After light rain we can often still mow. After heavy rain we move you to the next dry day and text you.
Do you take the clippings away?
Your choice, at no extra cost. Mulching clippings back in feeds the lawn. In the summer surge it can leave clumps, so most people pick take-away from December to February.
Can you mow my lawn today?
Sometimes. Same-day mowing depends on where you are and how full that day's round is. Tell us when you need it done and we'll give you the earliest day we can.
Do I need to be home?
No. Leave the side gate unlocked and tell us about dogs, gate codes or anything we should avoid. We'll text you when we're done.
