Local know-how

Mowing lifestyle blocks in the Western Bay

The big sections around Ōmokoroa, Te Puna and the edges of Tauranga grow differently from town lawns. A lot of them are a mix of kikuyu, paspalum and pasture grasses, and in a wet spring that mix can put on more growth in two weeks than a suburban lawn does in a month. Miss one visit in October and the next cut takes twice as long.

Freshly mown roadside verge at a commercial site

Winter brings the opposite problem. Low-lying ground and areas near orchard shelterbelts stay wet for weeks, and a heavy machine on soft ground leaves ruts that last all summer. We skip or hand-trim those areas until they firm up, rather than tear them up.

Slopes are the other thing to watch. Rolling ground that looks easy from the house can be steeper than it seems once you're on a machine, so we walk any slope we haven't mown before. Banks that are too steep to ride safely are trimmed by hand instead.

How it works

How our ride-on mowing works

  1. Show us the ground

Send a photo or a map pin, or we'll come and walk it. We look for slopes, soft spots and hidden hazards first.

  2. Get a fixed price per visit based on area and slope.

  3. Pick a schedule

Fortnightly through spring and summer suits most blocks, with fewer visits in winter.

  4. We mow on your day and text you when it's done.

FAQs

Ride-on mowing FAQs

How big does a section need to be for ride-on mowing?

As a rough guide, anything with more than about 1,000 m² of open grass. Smaller sections with lots of garden beds are usually quicker with a push mower, and we'll tell you which suits your place.

Can you mow steep slopes?

Gentle and moderate slopes, yes. We look at any slope before the first cut. Banks too steep to ride safely are trimmed by hand.

How often should a lifestyle block be mowed in spring?

Fortnightly for most blocks from September to December, when growth is fastest. Some owners go weekly around the house and fortnightly on the rest.

Do you travel to Ōmokoroa and Te Puna?

Yes, and there's no travel charge.

Do you mow commercial sites as well?

Yes, through our large-area mowing service for commercial sites, which includes scheduling and reporting for site managers.

How much does ride-on mowing cost?

Ride-on mowing is priced on assessment, by the area, how steep it is and how often it's mowed. Send a photo or the address and you'll get a fixed price before we start.
