Industrial sites

What industrial sites need from a grounds contractor

What we hear from committees, managers and site owners, and how we handle it.

  • Safety first

Site inductions, your permit and sign-in rules followed, and a site-specific health and safety plan before any work starts.

  • Large areas done efficiently

Ride-on and large-area mowing for yards, verges and banks, so big areas stay tidy without a big bill.

  • Clear fence lines and yards

Weed and vegetation control along fences, around buildings, in gravel yards and on hard surfaces, on a set schedule.

  • Records you can file

A short report after each visit, so you have a record of the work for your site files.

Sites

Industrial sites we look after

Every site is planned around its hazards, access and the way vehicles and people move through it.

  • Yards and depots

Grassed areas, gravel yards and fence lines kept clear around vehicles and stock.

  • Verges, banks and boundary strips

Large areas mown with ride-on and large-area gear, and banks line-trimmed where needed.

  • Weed and vegetation control

Weeds and regrowth kept down along fences, around buildings and on hard surfaces.

  • Frontages and offices

The office entrance and road frontage kept tidy for visitors and staff.

Through the year

A year of grounds care at a Tauranga industrial site

Big areas grow fast in a Bay of Plenty spring. The schedule keeps them down before they become a hazard or a fire risk.

  1. SpringSep–Nov

Growth takes off across large areas. Mowing steps up and the first round of weed control goes on fence lines.

  2. SummerDec–Feb

Peak growth on verges and banks. Long grass is kept down so it doesn't dry out into a fire risk.

  3. AutumnMar–May

Second round of weed control, boundary trimming and clearing regrowth around buildings and signs.

  4. WinterJun–Aug

Fewer mowing visits. Planning bigger clearing jobs and reviewing the scope for the year ahead.

Compliance

Site safety comes first

On an industrial site, the site operator and every contractor share health and safety duties, and those duties can't be contracted out. We work inside your systems, not around them.

Questions to ask any industrial grounds contractor

  1. Will you complete our site induction and follow our permits?
  2. Will you write a safety plan for our site?
  3. What gear will you use on large areas and banks?
  4. How will you record each visit?
  5. Are you insured, and can we see the certificate?

FAQs

Industrial sites: common questions

Can't see your question? Call or text 0800 634 245 and talk to the team.

Can you mow verges and banks outside the fence?

Yes. We mow verges, banks and boundary strips as well as grassed areas inside the site, as long as we can do it safely.

Do you control weeds in gravel yards and along fences?

Yes. Weed and vegetation control on hard surfaces, gravel and fence lines is one of the main jobs on industrial sites.

Can you trim shrubs and trees along the boundary?

Yes. We trim hedges, shrubs and small trees along boundaries and around buildings. Felling or large tree work needs a qualified arborist.

Can you work to our site safety requirements?

Yes. We complete your induction, follow your sign-in and permit rules, and prepare a site-specific health and safety plan before we start.

Can you work around our operating hours or shutdowns?

Yes. Tell us your shifts and any shutdown periods, and we'll schedule visits for the times that suit your site.
